Pinhole Egg Camera

This is an amazing idea. Creating a pinhole camera out of an eggshell, painted with the photo-sensitive emulsion on the inside of the shell. A one-time use camera that created haunting images....Happy Easter!

Art Shows in London April 28th Onwards

Alex Fakso's 'Fast Or Die' Book Launch

Alex Fakso became involved with photography since the early 90s when he acquired a camera to capture his own pieces on trains. His new book, 'Fast Or Die', documents life on the subways with imagery taken from across the globe, from the UK to the US, and as far as Russia and Japan.

This time Fakso expands his view beyond graffiti and shows images of ordinary people, common people plunged into the underground chaos: portraits of people running, taking the subway, sleeping on docks, sneaking into tunnels.

Friends from childhood and sharing the same passion for street art and urban culture, Alex Fakso and 55DSL creative director, Andrea Rosso have been brought together again with this new project. To support the project 55DSL have created six tees with pics and graphics taken from the book. Fast or Die will be available together with tees in selected 55DSL stores worldwide.

55DSL are launching the t-shirts and book at an exhibition of Alex's images at 55DSL's Studio55 (10a Newburgh St, London) in London on April 28th.

'The Reign Of Pink'
By Buff Monster
29.04.11 - 29.05.11
This is the premier London solo show from renowned Californian street artist Buff Monster. Featuring paintings on board, installation work and also the release of a limited edition print.

Celebrating 10 years of the king of pink Buff Monster has created a brand new body of work expanding on and revisiting familiar themes that he has become synonymous with. The artist has become famous for his signature candy pink bubbles, drips, ice cream sundaes, breasts and Japanese-inspired cutesy winged characters (also called Buff Monsters) which bring a smile to the face. As well as his highly collectable fine art paintings Buff Monster is known all over the world for his collectible toys and design projects.

The night will see Kids Of Grime aka photographer Verena Stefanie's first solo exhibition and equally important the first ever Grime photography exhibition.

Verena's documentary of grime has evolved into a project that involves all artists-emcees, moments, radio sets, studio sessions, something which goes behind the scenes and gives an insight into it, something to show in the future what was going in the present time. Although she has photographed numerous big names, Skepta, P Money, Newham Generals etc. she endeavours to show no partiality towards anyone, instead she supports talent over hype.

Photographer Jeffrey Martin has created a 360-degree image of the Strahov Library made from nearly 3,000 individual photos, stitched together to create the 360-degree effect. It's actually hosted on a really cool site that has lots of other locations for you to check out...

Luminant Point Arrays Photography

"The Luminant Point Arrays show tube televisions in the moment they are swithed off. The television picture breaks down and creates a structure of light. The pictures refuse external reference and broach the issue of the difference between abstraction and concretion in photography. The breakdown of the television picture describes the breakdown of the reference. The product is self-referential photography."

Toshio Shibata Photography

Brilliant 'architectural' photography Toshio Shibata....

"The photographs of Toshio Shibata convey a powerful drama generated by the conflict of natural forces against man-made structures. Water spills, crashes, glides, and pours over walls, sluices, concrete blocks and channels, in an endless gravity- propelled dance. Huge structures wind around highways and grasp the hillsides on which they are built."

\

"Under Shibata’s eye, the man-altered landscape becomes a mysterious abstract composition in which the shapes and patterns intrinsic to both the natural and artificial forms becomes visible."

Zombie Boy aka Rick Genest X Mugler

Incredible... I first posted about Zombie Boy (the tattooed freak) exactly three years ago when he was 22 years old, and I was thinking how he had said in an interview with BMEZine that he didn't really care what his future entailed. I felt sorry for him, but three years on and he is now modelling for Mugler and even appeared in Lady Gaga's most recent music video...not bad for this Canadian nutter...

See my original post with him 3 years ago HERE...

Tatiana Gulenkina Photography

Tatiana Gulenkina has produced some incredible photos using long exposures of light on contact paper in the darkroom. The effect is pretty amazing as it leaves multiple layers of textures and ribbons of light intersecting, enabling her to create her own universe.

Pete Eckert Blind Photographer

Pete Eckert is an incredible guy...he went from being an accomplished carpenter and artist with a bright future to becoming completely blind and needing a guide dog. This however, did not stop him from taking up photography and becoming completely hooked...

"I view my work during the event of taking the shot in my minds eye. I “see“ each shot very clearly, only I use sound, touch, and memory. I am more of a conceptual artist than a photographer. My influences come from my past memory of art and what I now find in the world at large."

"I am trying to cut a new path as a blind visual artist. Sighted people don’t help me make the art. They do give me feedback before I do the final large prints. I shoot the image, develop the film, and I do the contact print."

"I do what I call sample prints. There is a clear dividing line. I need the feedback loop to afford making large final products. I could cut sighted people completely out of my process. I could do a write up about the event of taking the photos."

"The negatives, contact sheets, and write up about the event could be the final product. I like doing the dramatic large prints better. I want sighted people involved. It is a good bridge between the blind and sighted. I want to be included in the world and accepted."

Thanks to Adriana Wong for the info.
