Maurizio Savini Chewing Gum Sculpture

Check out these freaky sculptures by Maurizio Savini. They are all made with fibreglass and pink chewing gum. Mario Codognato wrote about his work:

"The sensual act of chewing, the voluptuous warmth of rebelling saliva, the artificial and secretly aseptic fragrance which spreads from the mouth as a promise and missed kiss. The synthetic fleshliness of the pink color, the obsessive square shape of the product unwrapped and ready to be shred to pieces by the power of the tongue, all compete in crashing on the senses. Applying all this to the power and energy of the Sculpture and its history causes a short circuit having the capacity of turning the ludic into stately and vice versa."

San Francisco in Jell-O

Thought this was an interesting photo/art project by Liz Hickok..
"This project consists of photographs and video, which depict various San Francisco landscapes. I make the landscapes by constructing scale models of the architectural elements which I use to make molds. I then cast the buildings in Jell-O. Similar to making a movie set, I add backdrops, which I often paint, and elements such as mountains or trees, and then I dramatically light the scenes from the back or underneath. The Jell-O sculptures quickly decay, leaving the photographs and video as the remains."

Greener Gadgets Competition

The third annual Greener Gadgets design competition was held in New York earlier this week.
First prize went to a gadget called Augmented Living Goods. It's a concept for a cellphone app to help people choose local and sustainably produced groceries.
A user would scan the barcode of an item in a shop, and their cellphone would then inform them where it came from and whether or not it is in season, and relate its price history and comments from others who have already bought it. It was designed by Shane Blomburg, John Healy, Seth Laupus and Andrew Reeves. The other entries can be seen here.
